Hey friends, That's the name of the 2011 American black comedy film directed by Seth Gordon. The plot follows three friends, played by Bateman, Day, and Sudeikis, who decide to murder their respective overbearing, abusive bosses. The movie was a hit, ranking in 100+million on a budget of 35million. My hypothesis is many of us can relate to horrible bosses. I have my fair share of them. From the non-listener to the meeting marathon to be the epitome of hypocrisy, there are so many of them out there.
According to Gallup's comprehensive 2015 study, they found that 50% of respondents have had the #1 reason for leaving a job be their boss. Why do they behave that way? I would imagine many falls under Parkinson Law's; whereby you rise up to the level of your incompetence. And many may not even be suited to be bosses given their lack of empathy or temperament. They may be there because they over-perform in their previous individual contributor role. Which has NOTHING to do with a people management position. I believe it could be corrected with coaching (My latest guest on my pod is an Executive Coach) but it requires one to be self-aware. You don't want to be the person to gift your boss an Executive Coaching gift voucher on his anniversary. This is something I will be doing a longer form article on as I'm getting examples from others. If you have your own stories to share, please drop me a reply. Your story may be added to my article.
Have a great week! Adrian

📱Software/app RecommendationsTurn Google Docs into a knowledge base A common challenge in many workplaces is the transfer of knowledge and information. Either there is none or it's stacked sky high in hard binders making it difficult for one to go through. Wouldn’t it be great if all that wisdom can be on a Wikipedia-like platform? Spaceli makes that possible by turning your Google Doc into a knowledge platform. Just upload your doc and you can create a knowledge base in less than 30 seconds. With a nested tree menu and speedy interface, you can find the docs you're looking for faster. Beyond text, you can embed visuals from other platforms such as YouTube, AirTable, Invision, etc to make your “intranet” look richer. 💁♂️LinkedIn Course UpdateIn case you don't know yet, I'm creating my first online LinkedIn Course to help others achieve their own traffic to promote themselves or their causes. The idea came to me as I hit my 30k connections and got many opportunities from the platform. My commentary assignments for Channel NewsAsia, one of my marketing job, sponsored posts and commissioned work all came from my visibility which hinges largely on LinkedIn. Whether it is to promote your company, your cause or even yourself, LinkedIn is a great way to do so. But as with any mature platform, it is far harder to stand out from the crowd. This course will teach anyone the fundamentals of a profile, becoming a LinkedIn content creator and, most importantly, the art and science of storytelling + various growth hack to speed up your traffic accumulation. I will be sharing more on my landing page soon.
If you may be keen to be on the waitlist (The course is about 25% completed), let me know so I can add you to it and give you a special discount code when it is ready.
