👋 Opening Greeting

I hope you had a great week! I was in Miami this last week at Devfest2024 to share about AppSheet. If you do not have access to appsheet.com please ask your Google Workspace Admin for access. It is FREE! The terms of service are for only over the age of 18, so it isn't for students. However, if you ever wanted to make your own app... AppSheet is for you!

Things I am Working On

I am working on updating my premium courses. Such as Google Apps Script. and others. The problem with being a Google expert is Google is always changing things so it's a constant update! For example, Google Forms updated this week. Time to update all my resources... wheee

Video Help with This
I used GOOGLE VIDS to help me make this tutorial video. I'm still playing with Vids on how to make a good video and sharing my screen. But I hope this helps.

Streamline Grading with Google Docs’ Comment Bank

Reduce grading time by creating a comment bank for commonly used feedback. Here's how:

  1. Open a Google Doc and navigate to the Tools menu.
  2. Select Preferences and enable "Automatic substitution" for shortcuts like "sp" for "Spelling correction needed."
  3. While reviewing a student’s work, highlight text and click the comment icon.
  4. Reuse comments by typing a keyword, and let Google auto-complete suggestions from your bank.
  5. Share the doc directly with the student for immediate feedback.

This not only saves time but provides students with consistent, actionable feedback.

Profile Tip: Math Star

The 8 mathematical practices are ESSENTIAL and are what the STUDENTS should be doing in each lesson.

Practice 1: Make Sense of Problems and Persevere in Solving Them

Use FigJam to help students break down complex problems and organize their thinking collaboratively. Here’s a detailed tutorial:

  1. Go to FigJam and create a new FigJam board.
  2. Set up a template for problem-solving:
    • Create a sticky note area labeled What do we know? for students to list given information.
    • Add a What do we need to find? section for identifying the goal.
    • Include a section for Strategies where students can brainstorm possible approaches.
  3. Share the board with students using the share button and adjust permissions to allow them to edit.
  4. Assign a challenging problem
  5. Guide students as they:
    • Collaborate to fill out the board sections.
    • Use drawings and arrows to connect ideas visually.
    • Discuss and revise their strategies in real-time.
  6. Wrap up by reviewing the completed board as a class to highlight perseverance strategies.
