Digital Citizenship: 📧Emailing Groups of People
👀Privacy
Besides the excessive email that is generated by sending an email to a large group of people, the privacy of all the people in the list is compromised. Most likely the recipients do not know many of the people on the email list. The email lists all of the email addresses who the email was sent to. This allows others on the list to obtain email addresses of people who may not want their email address distributed. 💥BCCBCC stands for “Blind Carbon Copy.” Use BCC when sending out emails to groups of people who are not collaborating on the same project. If “reply to all” is not expected, use BCC instead of “To” or “CC.”
✔️Placing email addresses under “BCC” instead of “To” hides the email addresses to the group of recipients. This also means they are not able to reply to all. Leave the “To” line blank. Click on “Bcc” in Gmail to expand out the options for senders.
🆘Reply to AllWhen an email is sent to a group, be careful about replying to all. Your email may default to “Reply to all” when responding. Unless the comment is really intended to further the conversation or is of the benefit of the whole group avoid replying to all. Comments such as “I agree” or “Thank you for sharing this” are not appropriate for a reply to all message.
Archive Your Class For the Summer⛱️
Archive Your Class Video Tutorial 🔚End of the Year: Archive😎You made it! Another school year successfully under your belt. Before you go off and enjoy your well deserved summer vacation you may want to do a little end of the year maintenance on your Google Classroom classes. Check out this previous blog post on 3 Things to Wrap Up Google Classroom for the Summer. 🟡ArchivingDo not delete your class and assignments, you want to be able to reuse them next year! Even if you archive a class you can reuse the assignments from that class. 👉Go to the class tiles page: classroom.google.com. Locate the 3 dots in the upper right hand corner. This is the “More options” menu. Click on the 3 dots and choose “Archive.” Click here for more information on archiving classes.
🟩3 Lines MenuWhen you archive a class your class is not deleted or lost. It is simply located under “Archived classes.” Click on the 3 lines menu in the upper left hand corner and select “Archived classes” at the bottom.
☑️Documents Are Not In Google ClassroomA paradigm shift to remember is that nothing is attached in Google Classroom. Everything is linked from Google Drive. Archiving a class in Google Classroom shuts down the ability for students to submit work to the class. However, any documents linked in an assignment are still in Google Drive. The documents in the student’s Google Classroom folder at the end of the year are still in their folder. The documents in your Google Drive are still in your Google Drive.
