I hope you like the freebies in this newsletter.

I really appreciate you being on my list. I have decided to stop using my own emailer as it does not support such features as who opened an email and what did the person click on. In the move I sent you the initial welcome email manually. For some of you I accidentally sent you the welcome email for another list I am keeping here on BirdSend. So if you got that email? I apologise for my mistake in sending it to you. Please just ignore it and delete it.
Now that we have gotten that over with. I wanted to send out an email to point you to some of the most valuable items I have published. I have published a LOT of free materials now that will really help our industry move along if adopted. Also, as you can see, I am testing out putting images into emails because they are more "eye catching".
Item 01 One of the big issues that remains in our industry is the development of data models for data warehouses.
What is being "sold" today is that companies should just "get started" with a basic model and then extend it as they go along. It is tragic that we are still seeing people sell this in 2025. Indeed, the biggest culprits in this area are the Data Vault advocates. The Data Vault advocates seem to have adopted Data Vault as a religion. No matter what the business circumstances are, a Data Vault is the answer. There are places where Data Vault is good. So I have published a blog post discussing this matter.
DV vs Dimensional Models
Item 02 Of course, since you all know me, you know I was implementing the Sybase IWS Models back in the 2001-2005 period. And you know Sean Kelly and I were selling our 2.0 version of these models in the 2007-2010 period. I have released a version of the "Evaluation Workshop" that we used to run to sell these models. The difference being that I am now "selling" the base models for free. Now that the BI4ALL Base Models are available for free? There is really no reason for anyone to start a data warehousing project with a blank sheet of paper for the models. They can have the BI4ALL models as their starting point. These models contain a number of design techniques that Ralph never published. They can also be easily extended to be multi-level models. So there is the link to my BI4All Evaluation Workshop on You Tube for anyone who wants to learn from it.
Go To Workshop
Item 03 And lastly, I have released a long list of really useful information in my freebies document that lives in my dropbox. I was putting this link around on X and I have also been sending it to people on my email list using my own emailer. I have published the BI4ALL Base models in SQL Server demonstration databases. Anyone can download them and restore them and "go to school" on them. If you would like to pass this link around so that people in our industry can "Get The Freebies" on offer? I would really appreciate that. Sooner or later someone with a large audience is going to point out to "the masses" in the data warehousing and business intelligence areas that these freebies are there and they will save their companies a lot of money.
Get The Freebies So I think this is enough for this first Newsletter. Hopefully people in our industry segment will eventually pick up on all these freebies and actually start using them. The failure rates of data warehousing projects remains high. The most popular commentators in our segment seem to know very little about our industry and are actively leading people down blind alleys. That's kind of a shame. I had hoped to have a very large and very active email list by now but my "woke cancellation" put an end to that. As a result, after Ralphs retirement, there has been no one in our industry that has been a "thought leader". And I think that's kind of a shame too. Thank you very much for your time and attention. I really appreciate that. I wish you a great day! Pete PS. Obviously you are on my email list. I would love to have a very large email list related to Data Warehousing and BI to get around my "woke cancellation". So if you would like to share the link to get on my email list with colleagues? Please feel free to do so. Email List Link
